Preventive Hygiene

At St. Clair Beach Dental in Tecumseh, we have built our practice around keeping families healthy. We know the importance of preventive dental care for every member of the family, from the youngest to the oldest.

Preventive family dentistry helps every member of your family maintain excellent oral health throughout life.

Regular checkups not only keep teeth clean, but they offer the best way to ensure that problems are identified and treated early.

While you’re visiting our office, feel free to discuss any other concerns you might have about the appearance of your smile.

If you are feeling less than confident about the look of your teeth, our dentists can help you make an informed decision about aesthetic services.

At St. Clair Beach Dental Centre, our dental team is here to help plan the ideal schedule for maintaining or improving your oral health.

Why is it important that I visit my dentist every 6 months?

You might be surprised to learn the extent of what really goes on during your regular check-up.

In addition to cleaning and polishing all the visible and hidden surfaces of your teeth, we also check for many potential problems.

Tooth decay, oral cancer and periodontal (gum) disease are just a few examples of problems that can have serious consequences if left undetected.

We recommend that our patients visit our office at least twice each year to ensure their optimal oral health and to help avoid serious and costly problems.

In certain cases, we may even recommend 3 or 4 visits per year in order to properly treat conditions that require more regular attention.

Maintaining a regular appointment schedule with your dentist isn’t just good for your teeth, it’s an important part of your overall health.

The Importance of Dental X-Rays

Dental X-rays are one of the longest used and most reliable diagnostic tools in a dentist’s office. They can detect issues such as cavities, bone loss, cysts, fractures, and even disease.

Our dentists use digital x-rays which have the following benefits:

  • Less pain or stress for the patient. Instead of bulky film, which can be uncomfortable, a small sensor is inserted in the mouth
  • The disappearance of any harsh photo developing chemicals
  • Increased diagnostic capabilities for dentists such as digital imagery allow dentists to get a better view of your teeth and can spot small problems quicker. Images are instantly displayed on a computer screen, where they can be enlarged. This digital process is quicker and also allows dentists more time to communicate with patients. Patients move forward gaining a better understanding of their oral health.
